Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees America Mineiro playing host to Atletico PR. The home side will be looking to pick up the three points once again on home soil.
Coming into the season as a newly promoted club and looking to avoid the immediate return to Serie B suffered in 2016, America can be happy with the work they’ve done so far. Enderson Moreira’s troops have played some fairly attractive football and have a reasonable amount of points to show for it, taking 10 from the opening 8 matches, leaving the side in a mid-table area they’d be delighted to end the season in.
Whilst there’s still work to be done on the road, Coelho only fell 1-0 to champions Corinthians in midweek action and a return to the Estádio Raimundo Sampaio for this clash will surely provide a confidence boost. 9 of the hosts’ 10 points have came in front of the home crowd so far and though they lost to in-form Sao Paulo at home last weekend, wins over Sport Recife, Vitoria and Botafogo respectively more than prove their power with the crowd behind them.
Meanwhile, visitors Atletico PR ended their miserable 9 match winless run with a 2-0 win over Santos in midweek, somewhat lifting pressure on boss Fernando Diniz. Furacão made a flying start to the season by beating Chapecoense 5-1 but it has been all downhill since there and currently in 13th, 1 point above the drop zone, the visitors will be looking to avoid a return to poor form in this trip.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to take too much from a win over a Santos side who, quite frankly, are simply terrible as visitors and a return to away action for Atletico will hardly inspire confidence. Typically far stronger on home soil, the side are 9 matches without an away victory and having lost 2 of their last 3 on enemy territory, their prospects don’t look the brightest coming into this one.
Ultimately, there’s not a great deal between the two teams and it’d be no surprise to see them finish the season around about their respective current positions. That being said, in this clash alone, taking America’s home strength and Atletico’s away struggles into account, it becomes fairly apparent who the favourite is.
As such, we’re more than happy to have a play on the America Draw No Bet line. There’s not likely to be much in the match, but the hosts are highly unlikely to lose to an opponent that has only scored in 1 of their last 5 away games. America beat Atletico 1-0 on home soil in their last Serie A campaign and could well repeat the feat this time around.
America Mineiro possible starting XI: Jori; Neto, Messias, Ferraz, Palmieri; Savio, Juninho, Aderland, Serginho, Marquinhos; Ayton
Atletico PR possible starting XI: Santos; Rossetto, Ivaldo, Heleno, Wanderson, Carleto; Gonzalez, Camacho; Guilherme, Pablo, Nikao.
