This is a big game at the bottom end of the Swedish Superettan. Both sides lie in the bottom four heading into match-day 14 and we are now very much in the middle part of the season so it’s perhaps not premature to call it a relegation six-pointer. Both teams have very real need for the points as they bid to avoid the drop to the third tier.
Gefle’s plight is more worrying. They are without a win in 9 games heading into this one and only hapless Varnamo are below them in the standings. The division’s bottom club are also one of just two teams that they’ve managed to beat this term so even against fellow strugglers here, it’s hard to fancy their chances.
Frej aren’t having a much better time of it this season but they can at least take real momentum into this one. They’ve taken 7 points from their last 3 matches to more than double their points tally for the season. That includes an impressive 2-2 draw away to promotion chasing Halmstad so confidence ought to be pretty high in their camp and they should fancy this.
This is certainly a game that promises to deliver goals, largely because neither side are at all competent at defending their own goal. Frej have conceded 2.14 goals per game this season at home, which is a very worrying statistic from their point of view. They also have the 3rd worst overall defensive record in the division but they do carry an attacking threat and that’s largely why a huge 77% of their league games this term have seen both teams score.
69% of Gefle games have done likewise. They are the side with the joint worst defensive record in the division with 2.15 goals per game conceded overall. 7 of their last 8 matches have produced goals at both ends while the same is true of all of Frej’s last 4 so there is strong reason to fancy backing Both Teams to Score here.
In terms of the outcome, backing a Home Win looks the better bet. Frej are available at odds longer than Evens for the win and given they’ve finally found some form while Gefle have lost 6 of their last 8 that certainly looks like the wise move in the Full-Time Result market.
