LA Galaxy are accustomed to being the trailblazers of the MLS. They have won a record five MLS Cups and the four Supporters Shield trophies they have won is joint top along with DC United. They have finished in the top three ten times, and all of this combined makes them the most successful side in MLS history.
Unfortunately for them, times are changing in the MLS. Last season they slumped to a dreadful 11th place finish in the Westerm Conference last season, picking up just 32 points from 34 games and ending the campaign as the second worst side in the entire MLS.
This looked like a minor blip at the start of the 2018 campaign as they won their opener against Portland Timbers, but things have come crashing back down again. They did beat Montreal Impact last time out, but prior to that they had lost four games on the bounce and they still find themselves outside the Western Conference playoff zone.
LA Galaxy’s main issue last season was their terrible home form, and although they won their opening two matches at the StubHub Center this season they have taken a turn for the worse again. Their last home game was a 3-2 defeat to New York Red Bulls which made it three defeats in a row there.
San Jose Earthquakes know they have a chance here, but they aren’t in great shape either. Their last game was a 3-1 home loss to DC United, and they have won just one of their last ten league matches. This puts them 10th in the Western Conference, already six points adrift of the playoff places.
Still, Earthquakes have only lost four of their last eight games and have a good record against LA Galaxy. In fact, they have won their last four meetings with them, and lost just three of their last nine away days at LA Galaxy. They have also avoided defeat in their last two MLS away matches, and given their 2-2 draw at Whitecaps last time out we like the look of a San Jose Earthquakes Win or Draw Double Chance alongside a 2-2 correct score predictions.
Danny Hoesen is the man to watch for the visitors. The 25 year old Dutch attacker has been in fine goalscoring form recently, notching in four of their last five games to take his tally to six league goals for the season, so we’re backing him for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
