It may still be the early stages of the Veikkausliiga season in Finland but two sides who already look set for a mid-table finish this season come face to face this weekend as FC Lahti welcome VPS Vaasa to the Lahti Stadium. The hosts will still have ambitions of going further than this, however, and they know three points this Saturday will do their bid to be part of the title race no harm whatsoever.
FC Lahti have been in excellent form leading into this fixture and their previous four outings has seen them take 10 points from a possible total of 12. Given this excellent run, we think that they will be able add another three points to their tally this weekend and we are backing a home win for our tip.
VPS, however, should not be underestimated. They have been in solid, yet unspectacular form in the build up to this fixture. However, their most recent matches have been a disappointment and they have failed to win in their previous three outings. The fact that they have scored just two goals in their previous four outings is a key reason to their struggles and even though they have so far managed to keep a clean sheet in 67% of their away matches, they face an uphill struggle this weekend.
Indeed, the hosts also have an excellent defensive record so far this season and they have conceded just two goals on home soil this season. With this in mind, it should not be a shock to anybody that they have kept a clean sheet in 75% of their matches in front of their own fans.
Given the defensive capabilities both of these sides have shown in the early stages of the season, we think that there is further opportunity for profit in this fixture. We think combining our initial tip of a home win with there to be under 2.5 goals scored is an excellent way to boost the return.
