Back in March 2015, the two newest clubs in the MLS faced off on the opening day of the season. Orlando City hosted that match, drawing 1-1 with New York City as both sides got off to a point winning start. Since then things couldn’t have been more different for the two clubs.
Both teams finished outside the playoff zone of the MLS Eastern Conference in their debut season, with Orlando City marginally outperforming New York City. The following season saw a massive shift in power though, as New York City finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference and followed that up with another 2nd placed finish last year. Orlando City, meanwhile, are yet to make it to the post-season festivities.
Once again, New York City look set to challenge at the top. They lost 3-1 to Houston Dynamo last weekend but remain just a point off the Eastern Conference top spot. Many of the teams around them do have a game or two in hand, but things look promising for the hosts.
Orlando City did look to be on the rise, and despite a slow start to the season embarked on a six match winning streak recently. That run has since ended, and their 2-1 loss against Chicago Fire last weekend makes it three defeats on the bounce for them and pushes them down to 5th in the table. They are still four points inside the playoff zone though, so this could very well be their season of redemption following three disappointing years.
It’s unlikely they’ll break out of this losing run on Saturday night though. New York City have won all five of their home games in the MLS this season, scoring 15 goals in the process and putting in some fine displays. Orlando City, on the other hand, have lost two of their four trips away, the first of which was their 2-0 loss at The Yankee Stadium back in March.
We’re expecting a home win here, and an entertaining match should be on the cards. New York City have seen at least three goals in four of their five home games this season, whilst both of Orlando City’s last two away games have seen three goals. We think a New York City Win and Over 2.5 Goals bet looks a good offering, along with a 3-1 correct score predictions.
New York City Predicted Lineup: Johnson, Ibeagha, Ring, Callens, Ofori, McNamara, Tinnerholm, Medina, Moralez, Berget, Villa
Orlando City Predicted Lineup: Bendik, Johnson, Schuler, Rocha, Abdussalam, Higuita, Rosell, Meram, Kljestan, Mueller, Colman
