Midweek saw Real Salt Lake pick up a late win at home to Houston Dynamo, as Kyle Beckerman’s 82nd minute goal took the scoreline to 2-1 in the hosts’ favour and secured them rare back to back wins.
That has been the problem for Real Salt Lake this season – They lack consistency. This was the first time they have managed back to back league wins this season, despite their abundance of talent.
To be fair, the hosts have still put in some excellent performances. They have won six of their 13 MLS games this season and pushed themselves up to 5th in the Western Conference, but it’s the regular slump back into losing ways which will have the fans frustrated. As you might expect, most of this failure does tend to come away from home.
At the Rio Tinto Stadium they are a different team entirely. Admittedly they did lose their first home game of the season as new boys Los Angeles FC subjected them to a shock 5-1 thrashing. However, they have won all five of their home games since then, and that defeat is their only failure to win in their last 11 home league matches.
This will worry Seattle Sounders, because once again they are putting in a dismal showing in this first portion of the season. They have pulled the exact same trick for the last two years, floundering throughout the first half of the campaign before coming on strongly and taking that momentum into the post-season. This formula has resulted in back to back MLS Cup Finals and one trophy win, but they would surely prefer to put in a strong showing throughout the campaign.
So far, that hasn’t happened. They have won just two of their ten league games this season and lost six times, putting them second from bottom in the Western Conference. Away from home they have lost three of their five games, and given Real Salt Lake’s fantastic home form we think there’s a lot of value in the home win here. That’s what we’re backing, along with a 2-0 correct score predictions.
