Seattle Sounders are having a pretty poor season all round at the moment. They just can’t seem to get an extended run of good form going this season, and starting the campaign with three straight defeats wasn’t the greatest way to kick things off.
They did overcome this when they managed to win four of their next six games, but since then it’s been a long period of poor form dotted with the occasional victory. They come into this game having won three of their last 13 MLS matches, drawing twice and losing eight times.
Unsurprisingly, this has left Seattle Sounders languishing towards the bottom end of the table. They currently occupy 9th position in the MLS Western Conference, four points clear of bottom dwellers Houston Dynamo but eight points adrift of the playoff zone.
Real Salt Lake are well on their way towards amending their very poor performance in last year’s MLS campaign, but they have hit a few roadbumps along the way. They finished last season down in 9th position in the MLS Western Conference, but they put all that to bed when they started the season with a six match unbeaten streak.
This put them in contention for the top spot for a while, but an eight match winless streak fairly recently saw them drop down the table. They have managed to overcome that and have won two of their last three matches though, so they’re well on the road to recovery.
They currently sit in 4th position in the MLS Western Conference, seven points adrift of leaders FC Dallas and with two of the three teams above them holding games in hand. An MLS Supporters Shield triumph looks unlikely at this point, but they are seven points inside the playoff zone and will feel confident of putting in a respectable points total at the end of the season.
Away from home Real Salt Lake have struggled a bit more, with just three wins and four defeats making up their last seven trips away in the MLS. However, with Seattle Sounders losing three of their last five home games in the league the visitors will feel like they have a good chance of picking up some points.
The hosts did manage to defeat top of the table FC Dallas 5-0 recently, but FC Dallas have been known to collapse disastrously away from home this season, with the likes of Houston Dynamo and Whitecaps also thrashing them.
My prediction is for the visitors to do well in this one, so I’m backing a Real Salt Lake Win or Draw Double Chance at 10/11 alongside a 2-1 correct score prediction at 14/1.
