• Schalke have suffered four consecutive defeats, netting only one goal in the process
  • Union Berlin have picked up 20 of their 31 points at home, winning six of their 14 league games
  • Schalke have conceded the opening goal in six of their last eight league contests

Shot-shy Schalke continue to struggle

David Wagner has come under increased pressure at Schalke following four consecutive defeats since Bundesliga’s return and the goal-shy Miners could suffer more misery at Union Berlin.

Schalke have scored just once in four losses, suffering defeats against Augsburg and relegation-threatened duo Fortuna Dusseldorf and Werder Bremen in that time, and are struggling in attack following the injuries to Suar Serdar and Amine Harit.

Schalke are now winless in 11 games and have netted just three times in that period. Only bottom-three Fortuna Dusseldorf, Werder Bremen and Padeborn have scored fewer league goals than Wagner’s men this term.

With confidence low and just four wins from 14 away games and only 16 goals scored, we are predicting another tough afternoon for Schalke against a Union Berlin side desperate for points.

Union Berlin comfortable at home

Union Berlin are winless in six league games but there have been more encouraging signs from their performances than those of Schalke and we predict them to bounce back to form.

Union Berlin have picked up 20 of their 31 points on their own patch, winning six of their 14 home league games and they overcome both Borussia Dortmund (3-1) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-0) there this term.

Union held Mainz to a 1-1 draw in their last home outing despite playing for over 50 minutes with ten men, while prior to that they had lost 2-0 to Bayern but limited the champions-elect just three shots on target.

Urs Fischer’s side lost 2-1 at Schalke earlier in the season but it took an 84th-minute goal from Serdar to split the sides and with the visitors having key injuries in the attacking area, Union Berlin can exact their revenge on home soil.

Hosts could make fast start

Schalke have conceded the opening goal in six of their last eight league contests and another slow start could be fatal in the German capital.

Five of Union Berlin’s six home wins have been recorded to nil and they know how to control a game once they get their heads in front.

Schalke have failed to score in eight of their last 11 games and we are predicting them to fire another blank here. The Miners lost 1-0 at home to Werder Bremen last weekend and we are backing Union Berlin to prevail in a similar fashion for our correct score prediction.
