Vancouver Whitecaps spent last season challenging at the top of the MLS Western Conference before finally finishing 3rd, just a point off Portland Timbers. However, if they don’t get back to winning ways soon they could find themselves in a fight to make the playoffs.
Last weekend they picked up a respectable 2-2 draw away to FC Dallas, but this was their third consecutive 2-2 draw and their fourth game without a win in the MLS. In fact, they have won just one of their last eight matches and lost four times, so times are hard for the Whitecaps fans.
They only dropped four points from their opening five games this season though, and that decent start keeps them in 5th position in the Western Conference. However, they have played more games than any other team in the conference and still find themselves eight points off the top spot. Should the teams below them make use of their games in hand, Whitecaps would find themselves in 11th position.
New England Revolution actually find themselves in a worse position in the Eastern Conference, but their 6th place standing belies their relatively good record. They did lose at home to Columbus Crew last game, but they have only lost four of their 11 matches so far and actually have one more point than Whitecaps despite playing two games less than them.
Revolution finished just outside the playoff zone last season as well, so they will be desperately trying to make amends for that and take their fans into the post season in December. Given their hosts’ poor form at the moment, they will fancy their chances of getting something on Saturday too.
Away from home New England have picked up four points from their four league games this season, and they’re facing a Whitecaps side who have won two, drawn three, and lost one of their home matches. The last two games at the BC Place Stadium have ended in 2-2 draws, and given the hosts’ penchant for stalemates at the moment we’re backing it to be a draw on Saturday along with another 2-2 correct score predictions.
